Can I Use My External Hard Drive as My Computer Hard Drive?

okay, I have a Western Digital 500GB External Hard Drive that requires an external power source and i was wondering if i could use that as my regular computer hard, like take the external out of the chase (somehow) and replace it with the hard dive in my current computer because it’s only like 40GB or 50GB. Is that Possible? Can i do it with out "effing" up my computer? Thanks

yes you should be able to do that if the external hard drive is a stander drive in an external enclosure
some external drives are normal drives but some are not it would help if you told us what drive it is exactly.

Windows will still put much of the programs into your c:\windows directory, there is no way around that.
