Computer Hard Drives?

What is the difference between an ATA hard dive and SATA hard drive. I see them advertised on external and internal hard drives but don’t know the differnce or which is better to have. Anyone with info would be great, buying a new computer.

ATA is also known as IDE HDD- This uses the big ribbon cable
SATA is serial HDD – uses a small connector and tiny cable.

ATA is older, and has slower transfer rates.
If you’re buying a new computer, just about everything nowadays ships with SATA.
