does a SATA cable do the the same thing as a IDE cable?
I am building a computer and the motherboard i bought came with an IDE cable and a SATA cable. The IDE cable doesn’t work with my hard drive, so i’m using it on my CD dive. However, the motherboard also came with a SATA cable. Will the SATA cable work the same as a IDE cable?
I’m going to assume that the hard drive you are going to use is a SATA hard drive. You will need the SATA cable to connect it to the mainboard. Basically yes it does the same thing – it allows data flow to and from the hard drive and other componentry, but it does the job alot faster. From memory when SATA was released the increase in data transfer rates was expected to be anywhere from 2 – 4 times as much in the same time as you could expect from an IDE connection.
If you have an IDE hard drive though I suggest you take another look at your setup, a SATA cable will not wok with and IDE hard drive and vice versa.
