External USB Hard Dive Keeps Disconnecting Randomly?

I have a 500GB Verbatim Hard Drive that i have connected to my Toshiba Laptop. After 20 minutes or so the drive randomly disconnects. I’ve tried changing the power options disabling the them for the USB setting to stop it from shutting off, but it doesnt help. When i plug the drive in and look under Device Manager i see the USB Mass Storage. I changed all the USB hub properties to never turn them off to save power. I’ve even tried this on my desktop computer and it does the same thing. I’m running it on Windows 7 64 bit. I’ve searched numerous forums to look for a possible solution. I’ve also tried different USB cables and the problem continues. Please if anybody has solved this common problem let me know.

Some drives have software on board that turns it off if theresa pause in the stream! but off course i don’t know if it´s so in ur case. In some cases it disappeared when deleted the software and reformatted the drive. But i know in at least one case we had to change the hole housing because the problem was built in the hardware. It´s kind of power saver when not in use.

    doesn it have this option?
if not then means that the drive is danaged or gets hot easily
