Having Problems With Microsoft Word?
I am writing a long paper, and my setting will not stay the same. Under STYLE I set it on NORMAL and it flips back to BODY TEXT FIRST.
My tabs don’t work either. I go into FORMAT and go to TABS. On the left hand side it keeps going to 8.59". I clear it put in 0.5 and then press okay. It works once on the paper, and then flips back to the 8.59"
Also, to break the pages, I held down the space bar key to put a line across the page, and now I cannot get rid of them. Please help!! I think my computer has a mind of its own. Thank you in advance. ~Dove~
You need to do a Select All in Edit, then set your settings. Settings only apply to what you have selected (say, a paragraph), and if you have nothing selected, you get weird behavior. Using Select All makes them apply to the whole document.
To set a Page Break, you go into the Break menu and click on Insert Page Break.
Microsoft Word is just about the worst excuse for a word processing program on the planet. It does what the programmers at Microsoft think you want to do – and makes it almost impossible to actually do what you intend. Worst piece of junk in the world.
As much of a pain as it is, somehow get everything you need typed. Then go back and painstakingly format all the sections that don’t look right.
Or…a better approach would be to use something like WordPad to do all the typing, then copy and paste the text back into Word. At least this way you won’t be battling Word’s automatic formatting the whole time you’re trying to think about writing.
I hate Word.
