Most computers will show your NDL as a countdown. It shows how much time you have at that current depth before you violate NDL. If you change depth, that countdown will also change to reflect the new dive parameters. Go up…and the number will increase a bit. Head down and it’ll decrease.
If you’re seeing 0 as your remaining NDL…yep…you violated NDL and your computer should go into deco mode on you unless it’s a momentary violation. Some computers will give you a bit of a grace period to get out of deco mode. It’s not much time ( one of mine allows 30 seconds) before it commits to deco. I’ve got one that gives no grace too.
