Scuba Diving the Famous Blue Hole of Belize

This video is from our recent trip to Belize and the scuba diving at the famous Blue Hole. Part of the Lighthouse Reef System, it lies approximately 60 miles off the mainland out of Belize City. It is one of the most astounding dive sites to be found anywhere on earth, right in the center of Lighthouse Reef is a large, almost perfectly circular hole approximately one quarter of a mile (.4 km) across. Inside this hole the water is 480 feet (145 m) deep and it is the depth of water which gives the deep blue color that causes such structures throughout the world to be known as “blue holes.” The hole itself is the opening to a system of caves and passageway that penetrate this undersea mountain. In various places, massive limestone stalactites hang down from what was once the ceiling of air-filled caves before the end of the last Ice Age. When the ice melted the sea level rose, flooding the caves. Hovering amongst the stalactites, you can’t help but feel humbled by the knowledge that the massive formation before you once stood high and dry above the surface of the sea eons ago. The feeling is enhanced by the dizzying effect of nitrogen breathed at depths. The dive levels out at 135 ft and is only 23 minutes total with 5 minutes spent around the stalactites. Enjoy.

I don’t think it would be smart to use the powershot without the underwater housing ^_^

we cannot contradict this stuff. as a christian I believe this is real because Jesus specifically warned us about hell. it is for us to believe, but pls dont regret it if ur time will come and its ur turn to cry our for help in the burning furnace. No one has ever been at the center of the earth, everything is possible.

I hate to tell you mate, but Jesus never beleived in hell. That was something Christians descided at the Council of Nicea when they re-wrote the bible in 326AD.
Just wonder at the human spirit of adventure and challenge when you see people doing this and leave religion out of it.
By the way, you don’t always need a full wetsuit because your body aclimatises with pressure adjustments…..It is still pretty cold down there though.

But what you have to remember is that hell doesn’t exist.
You can believe all you want but it aint gonna happen. Just like i could believe I am the King of the Ducks – nice thought – aint gonna happen though. ;-)

You were getting narced, obviously. I would never go there without nitrox. True, it’s possible nothing will happen at those depths even if you’re on normal air, but I wouldn’t take my chances.
