Tech Diving in the Channel Islands
me and my dive buddies returning from a dive on the wreck of the rafio.A salvage ship that capsized while carrying out a salvage of copper and aluminium ingots from a vessel called the jean marie, that had been torpedoed in 1917 by the german uc18
Hi nuskaha
Have you got any footage of the Raffio or the Jeanne Marie?
got loads of info on these wrecks including all the press articals on salvage opperations. Maybe we could do a swap on some information for these wrecks.
There was a good book published in 1937 called seventy fathoms deep by David scott on the salvage company Sorima which explains what the Raffio looked like (ex Japanese trawaler). I got a copy im hoping to change to convert to digital if you would like a copy?
I haven’t got any footage of the Raffio , or the Jean marie , but will take some this season for sure .when i do i will post it so you can have a look .The Jeane marie is a brilliant dive ,with often amazing Viz up to 15 to 20 metres , maybe more. Im sure the jean marie was sunk in 1917 by a u boat uc 18, and when on a salvage mission the Raffio capsized and sunk very close by.Any info woulod be greatly appreciated. All the best …nuskaha
