Wouldn't the World Be a Great Place if People Knew the English Language?

Are there any purists out there? Anybody else want to throw their computer off of the high dive when "their" is confused with "there?" When "accept" is substituted for "except?" When "affect" replaces "effect?" Tell me I’m not the only one!! If we don’t stand united now, how will we ever resist the attack to our language that "texting" is presenting? Can you imagine an official document on White House letterhead that opens…"To the Gr8 citizens of R Nation." God help us!

Well, remember… "True" English is BRITISH ENGLISH… Not this bastardized version that we Americans speak…

So get off your a*rse, walk down to your boot, and spark up a f*ag and ‘bobs your uncle’ you’ll be speaking proper British English because THAT is "Real" English…

    I can almost accept Gr8…………..

it’s when people go out of their way to spell simple words………….

    like spelling cool , "Kewl"………..

    I mean……..it’s still 4 letters…………where’s the savings?

and all you’ve done is shown how ignorant you are with the incorrect spelling, and lame attempt to be "kewl".

    It’s really pathetic , in a way………..I just wanna smack those people……….

you have a really low expectations of these so called linguistic "purists", however, who even cares as long as the person you are communicating with get the gist of what you are saying.

I hate when people do that, almost as much as I hate people who TYPE IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERs,or type with each OtHeR LeTtEr capitalized.

Shojo-Ai: it’s very questionable if American English is a "bastard" language…very questionable indeed.

There is American English and the King’s English, spoken not only by the British, buy by the Welsh, Scottish and Irish.

    Ahem.

Yes, American English is a little different. But the literature it has produced for the world absolutely soars and our Americanisms are recognized around the world.

English, in its highest and most elegant form is spoken in England, but there’s nothing illegitimate about the relationship between North America and the English language.

I don’t mind simple gramatical errors because I know I make them myself if I’m not concentrating. The occasional ‘their’ instead of ‘there’ doesn’t bother me but if it’s done repeatedly then I do get fed up. What really does get to me is things like ‘Iz U 4Real lol’ or ‘PeOpLe WhO tYpE lIkE tHiS’.

I think a more appropriate question might be "Wouldn’t the world be a great place if everyone used the English language PROPERLY?"

I am sorry that we cannot combat the systemic IGNORANCE and LAZINESS that the "texting" crowd has done to destroy the language as we know it.

God help us all, as these are the new "generations" who will "save" us all! Too conceited to spell, don’t expect anything more from these selfish, entitlement-minded morons.

abbreviations have been around for as long as our language has been
this isn’t new, and our language isn’t going anywhere

it may change, but it has always been constantly changing and there’s nothing you can do to stop that

Nice try professor, you should go back to using the smelloscope.
